The Bellefontaine Police Department, in conjunction with the Bellefontaine Civil Service Commission is proud to announce that effective in 2020, the Bellefontaine Police Department will begin accepting lateral transfers. This change will now allow current law enforcement officers that already work in policing to apply to work at our agency. This eliminates the need for current law enforcement officers to take a written examination and a physical agility exam to enter the hiring process. Instead, when a date is announced, the City will accept applications for lateral transfers. Then, after the application phase ends, further steps in the hiring process will then start. Those steps will still include an oral board interview, polygraph exam, psychological exam, background investigation, and medical review. Following those steps, a list will be compiled of qualified candidates. This list will be considered an additional pool of candidates that the City may hire from aside from any list certified by the Civil Service Commission of applicants who have not yet been hired by another agency. The City then may choose to hire from either list, allowing for a broader view of potential candidates.
To request a notification of the next officer entry level testing, please fill out the request on the Police Employment page. The Bellefontaine Civil Service Commission announces a three-part competitive examination including written eligibility, a physical agility evaluation and an oral interview to establish a Civil Service Eligibility List for the position of POLICE OFFICER in Bellefontaine Ohio Police Department.
