The City of Bellefontaine's Wastewater Treatment Plant is located on the City's Southwest side of town at 610 South Troy Road.
The City of Bellefontaine provides for the collection and treatment of wastewater and sewage, not only for residential customers, but for commercial business and industry as well. The City has the responsibility for planning, designing, and maintaining approximately 90 miles of sanitary sewers. The City also operates 20 sewage lift stations of various sizes and designs. Wastewater and sewage flows mostly by gravity to the Wastewater Treatment Plant located on South Troy Road. |
The Wastewater Treatment Plant consists of two fine screens, two oxidation ditches, three secondary clarifiers, and UV disinfection. For bio-solids handling the City is equipped with three aerated Waste Activated Sludge holding tanks, four drying beds, and an Ashbrook belt filter press.
After the pollutants are removed, the plant returns the clean water to Possum Run Creek, which eventually empties into the Great Miami River.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant personnel perform laboratory analysis which in part consists of monitoring pH, DO, C-BOD5, suspended solids, ammonia, and e coli bacteria to ensure water quality. The personnel also perform preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment used in the treatment process, as well as maintenance of all lift stations.
