Temporary Road Closure – Friday, July 25, 2025
Please be advised that the 200 block of South Main Street, between Chillicothe Ave and Auburn Ave, will be closed to all traffic starting at 7:00 AM on Friday, July 25 to allow crews to perform roadway repairs.
Work is expected to be completed and the road reopened by 11:00 AM.
Please note: Drive-thru traffic at City Sweets and Creamery (222 S Main Street) will still be able to exit the driveway by using the alley to access South Madriver Street.
We kindly ask all other drivers to avoid the area during this time to help ensure the repairs can be completed as safely and efficiently as possible.

Eric Everhart, 2202 Co. Rd. 130, Bellefontaine, representing Steven Buchenroth, 4994 Twp. Rd 238, Huntsville, OH 43324 is requesting a side yard variance for 633 S. Main St. This request is for the replacement of the exterior stairs which were in existence before Mr. Buchenroth purchased the property. These stairs are not structurally sound and need rebuilt. There will be no change to the layout of the stairs. These stairs, which were built by the previous owner without a known permit or variance, will be within 10 feet of the property at 637 S. Main Street Bellefontaine, which is owned by Frederick Brentlinger. This property is zoned B-3 General Business District.
The application forms, maps and other pertinent information are on file in the office of the City Engineer for public inspection Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

City Council will meet at 7:30 PM on July 22, 2025 in Council Chambers located on the second floor at 135 N. Detroit Street, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. At 11:38pm, Wednesday night, our crews were dispatched to 1000 Garfield Ave., Lot #3, for a structure fire. While enroute, responding units were advised that the resident was still inside. Engine 21 responded while M21 was handling a medic call. M21 responded after delivering their patient to the ER.
Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy smoke and noted fire in the kitchen area. During the initial attack and primary search, an elderly male was found, unresponsive, in the living room. After being removed from the structure, burns were noted to his back and calves and CPR was initiated. The victim was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital where ROSC (Return Of Spontaneous Circulation) was achieved.
After stabilization, he was transported to OSU Medical Center. His current condition is not known at this time.
All off duty personnel were recalled and mutual aid engine companies were requested to the scene.
Crews remained on scene for 2 1/2 hours.

Traffic Alert – South Main St. Closure
South Main Street between Auburn Avenue and the Logan County Board of Elections will be closed today at 8:00 AM for a water service line replacement.

The boil water advisory for East Brown Street and East High Avenue has been lifted.
The Bellefontaine Water Department, in partnership with the Bellefontaine Fire Department, will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing on Wednesday, July 10th. Flushing will occur Monday-Friday, 6:30am-4:00pm. Hydrant flushing is a critical part of maintaining the city’s water system and supporting emergency services. Here’s why it matters: 🔥 1. Ensures Fire Readiness • Flushing tests and clears hydrants to ensure they’re fully operational. • Firefighters depend on reliable hydrants during emergencies. • It supports the city’s ISO rating, (insurance service office) which can affect insurance premiums for homes and businesses. 💧 2. Improves Water Quality • Flushing removes sediment, rust, and mineral buildup from water mains. • This helps keep your drinking water clean, clear, and safe. 🔄 3. Maintains Water Pressure and Flow • Flushing allows crews to confirm that the water system delivers adequate pressure and volume citywide. 🔧4. Identifies Maintenance Needs • During flushing, crews inspect hydrants for leaks, damage, or other issues. • Early detection helps prevent failures during critical moments. 📣 A Note to Residents: • You may notice temporary water discoloration or a slight drop in pressure during flushing. • This is normal and should clear up quickly. Running cold water for a few minutes should help. • Please exercise safe driving practice and proceed slowly through pools of water in the roadway.
