Kris Myers

It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that the City of Bellefontaine and the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District share the passing of Kris Myers, Parks and Recreation Superintendent, who passed unexpectedly on December 1, 2025.

Kris served this community with exceptional dedication, professionalism, and heart for more than two decades. Since joining the City in January 2005, he devoted himself to strengthening our parks, enhancing recreational opportunities, and improving the quality of life for residents of all ages. His first week on the job began during a major ice storm—an early testament to the resilience, composure, and commitment he would bring to his work for the next 21 years.

Kris’s contributions to Bellefontaine are both extensive and enduring. He played an instrumental role in expanding youth programming, modernizing operations, and creating a recreation model grounded in inclusion, accessibility, and community engagement. Under his leadership, the former Kaleidoscope playground was redeveloped into Play at the Peak, an adaptive playground that allows children of all abilities to play together. He also oversaw the adoption and continued management of the Myeerah Nature Preserve as a city park, providing residents access to one of the region’s most treasured natural assets. In partnership with local schools, he launched the winter walking program, emphasizing year-round health and wellness for the community. Additionally, he guided the successful passage of a dedicated income tax that secured long-term funding for park improvements and operations. As a result of this work, new playground equipment was installed at Oakland Square Park, planning began for a new municipal pool, and construction is now underway on the reimagined Harmon Field park.

These projects—and the memories and experiences they will provide for generations—stand as lasting testaments to Kris’s vision and leadership.

In addition to his professional achievements, Kris held deep pride in his academic and community accomplishments. He was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School, Bowling Green State University (B.A. in Parks & Recreation Administration), and Ohio University (Master of Public Administration). He was also a respected OHSAA football official with an esteemed 30-year officiating career marked by integrity, fairness, and dedication to the sport.

Kris’s influence extended far beyond the scope of his position. He inspired colleagues, mentored young athletes, strengthened community partnerships, and approached every responsibility with humility, patience, and an unwavering belief in the power of recreation to bring people together. His passion was evident in every field he prepared, every program he supported, and every improvement he championed on behalf of residents.

The City of Bellefontaine also acknowledges the tremendous personal loss felt by Kris’s family—his wife, Christina, and their four children: Kathyrn, William, Allison, and Andrew. He spoke of them often with pride, affection, and gratitude, and his devotion to them was reflected in every aspect of his life.

Kris Myers leaves behind a legacy that will remain visible in every park, program, and recreational space throughout Bellefontaine. His work, leadership, and compassion have strengthened this community in lasting ways, and he will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.

The City of Bellefontaine and the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District extend their heartfelt condolences to the Myers family and to all who had the privilege of working alongside him. We will continue to honor his memory by carrying forward the values he exemplified—service, integrity, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to community.
